Kathleen Cares! When Did That Start?
The June 12, 2024, City of Reno Government City Council meeting had everyone on the edge of their seats, especially during the discussions surrounding Agenda Item D.2 - Allocation of Contingency Funds for Fiscal Year 23/24. It felt like an episode of Survivor as we awaited the fate of the allocations.
Anyone Surprised?
Picon isn’t going to spend time writing about an investigation done by Washoe County that didn’t include the scope of the complaint.
Instead, we’ll just post it so our readers can make their own decisions.
Cooling and Heating Failures at New O'Brien Middle School Raise Concerns for Students' Safety and Comfort
William O'Brien Middle School, located at 5000 Silver Lake Rd in the North Valleys, has become a focal point of concern for parents and former teachers. The newly built school, which opened for the 2022-2023 school year, replaced the old O'Brien Middle School, offering modern amenities and a state-of-the-art learning environment. However, ongoing issues with heating and cooling have marred its reputation, raising questions about the effectiveness of the construction and management of the school.
So Many Questions
If you read the comments from Kimberly Koschmann, she had heard of a “higher-up” with Washoe County named Dana who is telling people at staff meetings that the rumors about the Executive Director of Karma Box Project are false. We’re not sure what Dana this is but in reading Our Town Reno’s article from June 9, 2024, there certainly is a Dana who the Executive Director of Karma Box Project might actually report to. This same Dana was at the May 28, 2024, Board of County Commissioner meeting where she was spotted talking to the Karma Box Project Executive Director and his attorney.
Does a TRO Trump a Domestic Violence Complaint at Washoe County
On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, there was a Washoe County Commission meeting all the commissioners and concerned residents were stuffed into the Nevada Public Health Chambers like sardines in oil, the meeting room the Health Board doesn’t even use.
Who’s Knocking at My Door?
If it isn't the bumbling buffalo herd of Sparks City Councilmen preening and pawing at new lows of small-town campaign shenanigans. This sordid video exposition lays bare the cringeworthy politics we've come to expect from Mayor Lawson’s coterie of credibility-bereft male council members.
June = Library Trustee Time at Washoe County
Remember back on June 20, 2023, when there were twenty applicants for the appointment of a Washoe County Library Board Trustee. After having to hear Appointed Commissioner Clara Andriola drone on about how she contacted each applicant we were close to a boredom included coma.
Dumb Luck
Picon believes in dumb luck do you?
Dumb Luck is something good that happens in an unexpected way, especially when it is not deserved, you know, it was just dumb luck.
We published an article on May 27, 2024, and used a photo of City of Reno Appointed City Councilmember Kathleen Taylor and the individual who is the Executive Director of Karma Box Project that we found online. Dumb luck.
Washoe County Buries Their Head in the Sand: Safety Concerns, Alexis Hill Knew, and Limited Scope of Investigation
On May 28, 2024, the Washoe County Commission was the setting for a woman to come forward and disclose possible domestic violence she experienced from the Executive Director of Karma Box Project. This public comment initiated a chain of events that captured the attention of many.
Is a PAC Picking the Washoe County District 4 Candidate?
The political primary season has reached a level of desperation rarely seen, and the delightful spectacle is one to behold. The air is filled with the scent of desperation emanating from the candidate’s seeking reelection, creating an atmosphere of questionable and yet brilliant maneuvers.
How Low Will Kris Go?
Councilman Kristopher Dahir seems to be reduced to wince-inducingly juvenile lows in his desperation against challenger Washoe County School Board Trustee Joe Rodriguez.
Hand Sheriff Balaam a Screwdriver
It seems the powers that be in Washoe County and the City of Sparks have backed themselves into another deliciously cringeworthy corner regarding senior safety and political shenanigans at the Sparks Senior Center
Why Did We Burn Our Bras?
At the Washoe County Commission meeting, Mariluz Garcia stated yesterday she had received a curveball regarding Agenda Item 10, the approval of agreements with RISE, Volunteers of America, and Karma Box Project at the Nevada Cares Campus.
We sort of think Garcia threw a curveball right back at the residents of Washoe County, when she supported the three agreements being approved after allegations regarding Karma Box Project.
Renown Health's Outsourcing Woes: A Community Left Adrift
Renown Health has faced significant upheaval over the past five years, marked by multiple waves of layoffs and outsourcing. This trend has not only impacted the hospital's workforce but has also raised serious concerns about the hospital's commitment to the community it serves.
Eric Brown Hedging His Bets?
We received a delicious little dossier of candid snaps and pondered what to do with them. Once we heard the KRNV interview with Washoe County Government Commissioner Ward 1 candidate Marsha Berkbigler we knew what to do, publish ‘em.
Gordon Ramsay Didn’t Bother to Cut the Ribbon, Fishy
As I kid, I remembered cooking shows, travel shows, the evening news, showing Brits stopping at their fish and chippy shop, chowing down a traditional cheap meal in England. When I finally made it to London in 2022, what finned me was a price of £12 about $15US for my fish and chip meal, but the malt vinegar made the experience delicious. Where were the cheap prices that kept the working class of London getting fish, chips, and a pint?

The joys of campaigning door-to-door as an appointed incumbent - that special blend of quizzical looks and backhanded compliments that makes grassroots politics so wildly entertaining.
The Prospectors’ Club Tumbles to a New Location
The first gentlemen’s clubs, most established in London from the late 17th century onwards, were highly exclusive, offering aristocratic and wealthy men a refuge from work and family. The eligibility of potential members depended on their class and genders, with women banned…
Double Cross
Well, well, if it isn't Commissioner Mike Clark playing Johnny Political Narc again, this time blowing the whistle on a shadowy Las Vegas PAC slipping shady support to Appointed Commissioner Clara Andriola's reelection bid. Who isn’t helping Andriola in this zany primary. Governor Joe Lombardo has called out “all hands-on deck,” because he can’t risk Clara losing to any of the rag-tag group of Republican opponents, including a fired Sparks Fire Chief - Mark Lawson, CBS News Election Denier - Tracey Hilton-Thoms, and a couple of other Republican candidates in the race.
