The Nevada Independent has announced they will be selling advertising on their website. Such a great idea. We thought why not? Contact PIcon at documents@piconpress.com if you’re interested in drinking deep.

When you are NOT in the good old boys’ club
The Good Old Boys are alive and well in local politics, while Mike Clark continues to be the outsider. Apparently seeking oversight of your tax dollars will brand you as an extremist…
It’s Your Contributions, Except Eugene
Picon is thinking of becoming a candidate in 2026 so we can stupidly use campaign funds as some candidates are doing in these 2024 races.
Picon's First Opinion
Picon’s Publisher, Larry Chesney, has been chewing on publishing readers opinion for about a year now, and this week he said, “What the hell, let’s do it.”
Sit, Don’t Stand
As Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill admonished yesterday during the Board of County Commissioners meeting, “It is not mandatory to rise, by the way.”
We’d like to question how wrong can invocations go? About this wrong.

We had taken a lot of flack for a post penned by Nevada Liberty and a Temporary Restraining Order from 2002 we had posted. There has been significant controversy surrounding Tracey Hilton-Thomas, a candidate for Washoe County Commission District 4. The Nevada Liberty article delves into the details of a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) from 22-years ago in addition to the 2006 TRO which we have published.
Mike Clark Soothsayer?
Yes, Mike Clark can predict the future, he just proved it when Picon took a look at Appointed Commissioner Clara Andriola’s latest Nevada Secretary of State Contribution and Expense Report, filed on April 15, 2024, it shows an ‘In Kind’ donation from Lamar Companies of $6,843.75 for a digital billboard. Plus, Andriola spent an additional $14,895.50 to buy more billboard advertising from Lamar. What is Andriola running for Governor?
Reese Rants at Karl Hall Too
Picon is publishing this legal decision from Judge David Hardy Washoe County District Court Department 15, because of a number of comments City of Reno No-Longer-At-Large Councilmember Devon Reese made on April 10, 2024. Reese, as usual, pummeled Councilmember Jenny Brekhus calling her a liar and pointing out the lawsuit she brought against the City of Reno had been denied by Judge David Hardy. Reese gleefully pounced on Jenny’s loss, but to call a fellow councilmember a liar that might be going just a bit far.
Sign Your Life Away
First and foremost, let us address the issue at hand – the lack of rights at the homeless shelter.
I Never Saw the Package, Until Today
Commissioner Mike Clark reached out to us yesterday afternoon after having been called out by City of Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve for being in the audience of the Reno City Council meeting…
Enemies at City Hall
Picon ponders the tit for tat of politics this season. Okay, we’ll take some of the heat because we can be petty and snarky too but is it simply too much this year? Do we have the wrong people in office? Too many appointed individuals?
As the dust settles after elections, it becomes clear that our elected officials are driven by the desire for re-election. Instead of prioritizing the needs of the constituents who elected them, they seem more focused on securing their next position to advance further in the political hierarchy.
A Storm of Criticism
In a surprising turn of events, Picon found themselves at the center of attention after posting a 2006 Temporary Restraining Order related to a Washoe County Commission District 4 candidate. The response was overwhelming, with a barrage of comments questioning our credibility, journalistic integrity, and fairness. Amidst the backlash, Picon noticed that some of the critics had less than honest Facebook accounts. Additionally, comments from a former candidate that took us to task, Randy Zachary, who later removed his comment after being confronted by Nevada Liberty.

Beadles Bucks ... Go Ahead and Take the Money
No one ever asked where they got their donations from before.
Picon started this article weeks ago, yet we were stalled because public records finally began to trickle in. Hence, one thing led to the other and we were busy crafting requests in order to get additional records to finish other investigations. All we can say now, is if you think the RGJ does investigative journalism, just wait, and see!
Colleagues and Cocktails
Ever wonder what the City of Reno is spending your hard-earned taxpayer dollars on. Legal stuff. Lots and lots of legal stuff…
$139,759.77 Per Year Demands Transparency
Are you making $139,759,77 in total pay and benefits per year? We’re not either, but reportedly Councilmember Devon Reese is according to Transparent Nevada. This raises questions about the transparency of city officials and the availability of public records. It also answers our question as to why so many candidates are running against him, not a bad payday.
Clara Finds Her Voice, Quietly
During the March 26, 2024, Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting there was an odd exchange between Commission Chair Alexis Hill and Appointed Commissioner Clara Andriola which we continue to be perplexed by. The exchange was all but whispered by Commissioner Andriola as if she would be in ‘trouble’ if she said too much.

Public records from a citizen’s request regarding the Washoe County Library.
Stretching the Truth
Ah, we’ve all encountered a self-proclaimed expert. We often enjoy a politician/candidate who decides to crown themselves an expert. Picon would urge against taking the crown because it might slip.
Why would a candidate proclaim to be an expert when public records prove the opposite?
Inexperience on the serpent's tongue
Inexperience, coverups and journalistic gymnastics. The saga of the Washoe County ROV from records you have never seen…
There will be no resolution, despite the need to take it down to the studs…
Despite the efforts of two commissioners, an election resolution seems to be stalled out. Read about the public records surrounding the efforts to keep this off the agenda…
The Kate Marshall Factor
Picon read Eddie Lorton’s opinion in the Reno Gazette Journal and were hit with the age-old issue of power going to people’s heads. And we don’t mean Eddie’s. When a mayor and councilmember start thinking they’re untouchable, it’s definitely a problem. As the City of Reno Mayor’s term gets nearer to ending day by day, the plots being floated to aid her, and her allies, to stay in power and stay relevant are interesting.
