We received an email forwarded by Commissioner Mike Clark yesterday regarding the decision by the Washoe County WVC Workplace Violence Committee to cease hosting PRIDE events at the Washoe County Libraries.

It takes a lot to bring Picon down, but as we penned this story we were struck by sadness and question what is happening to our elections in Washoe County, Nevada.

In Sparks, the city council's latest performance was less about civic duty and more about damage control. On Monday, July 22, 2024, Mayor Lawson played agenda Jenga, removing key items faster than a magician's sleight of hand, one has to wonder: Is this transparency or just making things conveniently opaque?

Alexis Hill doesn’t care about free speech, and over the last year she’s proven it monthly with her gavel, however no more so than this last month with the dustup over $10,000 and an alleged swastika. Picon was surprised to read that ADUs Accessory Dwelling Units are coming back to the City of Reno Council meeting on July 31, 2024. The city staff will be presenting their recommendations, and you know the council almost ALWAYS follows the of staff reports.

Wow! Commissioner Clara Andriola became a Republican for less than 24-hours on July 9, 2024. Andriola has asked for Agenda Item #22 to be placed back on the July 16, 2024, Washoe County Board of Commission Agenda, guess she’s had a change of heart, and now wants to certify the two recounts as the Democratic Attorney General and Secretary of State want her to. Andriola voted on July 9, 2024 not to certify. Guess a girl can change her mind when being threatened with criminal actions and dire consequences.

Picon calls upon others to be transparent, so we attempt to always be so.

We seem to have gotten it wrong with our Parting of the Red Sea article on June 9, 2024.

Picon would like to point out to the Republican Women of Reno President Debbie Hudgens, who neglected to identify herself as the club president in responding to our post, we didn’t say a word about Sigal Chattah and her need for reimbursement of her flight to Reno.

Picon Googled the Parting of the Red Sea and was served up information from Wikipedia.

Our question did Andriola part the Red Sea and let her Republican base cross and then close the sea and leave Commissioner Alexis Hill struggling to find a pair of water wings.

Well, well, well. Looks like we've stumbled upon the secret recipe for political success in Sparks: a dash of cronyism, a sprinkle of lobbying, and a heaping helping of taxpayer money. Who knew?

The lawsuits just keep coming but this one has Picon perplexed.

We’ve been trying to track the disappearance of the former Director of Washoe County Human Services Agency Amber Howell who went missing in April 2023. We keep checking milk cartons. When anyone inquired about Howell, Washoe County hid behind human resources as they always do, unable to release any information.

Here comes senior advocate Marsy Kupfersmith who thought she did everything right, collected 100 signatures she was told she would need to be a nonpartisan candidate in a Washoe County Commissioner race. Turned in the front and back forms with 114 signatures to the Washoe County Registrar of Voters, and waited, and waited, and waited.

Picon has been following voters’ concerns about their ballots being counted or in some cases not counted because they didn’t vote.
