County Manager Brown - Where's the Accountability for Allowing the Public to be Mislead?
Nevada Globe headline November 1, 2024 while County Manager Eric Brown was on a medical leave of absence.
Remember all those Board of County Commissioner meetings where we were told no staff time was being used for Drag Story Hour? Well, a 2023 public record from the Washoe County Library just blew that story wide open.
The Smoking Gun: Library Executive Director Jeff Scott's public records show "Comp time/staff reassignments" for these events. Let's be clear - comp time is still staff time, and staff time is still paid for by taxpayer dollars.
The Real Cost of Deception:
WC-1 Ballot Measure failed
Public trust damaged
Taxpayer funds misrepresented
Community division deepened
Here's the thing: This isn't about Drag Story Hour itself. Have it, don't have it Picon doesn’t care - that's not the issue. The issue is transparency and honesty about how public funds are being used.
When Scott chose to "pick a fight" with a significant portion of Washoe County residents, he wasn't just alienating potential library supporters - he was actively undermining public trust through misrepresentation of resource allocation.
Questions for County Manager Brown:
How long has the county known about this discrepancy?
What other library funding claims need fact-checking?
Where's the accountability for misleading the public?
The library system belongs to all Washoe County residents. When its leadership plays fast and loose with the truth about funding, everyone loses.
Ball's in your court, County Manager Brown. How about some actual transparency this time?
