Has Jeanne Herman Been Played Again?
Just when everyone thought the Registrar of Voters carousel might stop spinning, Commissioner Jeanne Herman assured us all was well. The hand-picked candidate would be "wonderful." Take a deep breath, relax - the drama's over, right?
Plot twist: It's Andrew McDonald. Yes, THAT Andrew McDonald.
For those keeping score at home, this is the same deputy who:
Watched the election system implode from the front row
Kept mum while candidates waited for voter records that weren't coming
Stood by during the chaos that sent Cari-Ann Burgess on medical leave
Only "fessed up" about system failures when publicly called out
And THIS is Herman's idea of "wonderful"?
Herman said on December 10, 2024 at the Board of County Commissioners meeting during commissioner comments: “So, this week on Monday I was in a meeting where we were looking to choosing a new ROV. Um, it was exciting to be on the board and I felt honored to be there; and we were very successful and in fact we unanimously choose a candidate that we think would be wonderful for our ROV. I’m just anxiously waiting now for the results of that, not results, but there is some checking, some back checking and that sort of thing. I think we have done our work and come up with a wonderful answer.”
The regular public commentators who've been fighting for election integrity for five years are now scratching their heads. Has Herman lost her mind? Or is this just the latest episode of "County Manager Eric Brown Pulls the Strings"?
Looks like Herman's been bamboozled again, falling for the oldest trick in the bureaucratic playbook: promoting the problem to fix the problem.
Here's a wild thought: Maybe before gushing about candidates, we should check if they were part of the mess we're trying to clean up?
The carousel keeps spinning, and Herman's just along for the ride.
