Flip-or-Flop-er Kathleen Taylor?

Picon was amused by Taylor's artwork - we kept thinking we'd seen it somewhere.

Okay, Picon will be the first to admit that Commissioner Mike Clark calls it like he sees it. On this occasion he’s swinging from a limb, and did we hear a crack?

Hey, Commissioner Clark we know it’s hard to believe but Appointed Reno City Councilmember Kathleen Taylor is a Republican, we don’t get it either. There hasn’t been a conservative voice on the Reno City Council since Neoma Jardon resigned, and towards the end of her reign it was questionable if Jardon could still be considered conservative. Yes, we know Taylor took her Ward 5 seat, but these are nonpartisan seats, so you don’t have to replace someone from the same political party as the departing councilmember.  It’s not a commission seat which requires partisan replacements.

Picon thinks this was just a little bit brilliant on the part of Mayor Schieve and At-Large “Wanna Be Mayor” Councilmember Reese, they get their disciple Kathleen Taylor. She ran in 2012 an unsuccessful bid for the at-large seat on the Reno City Council. Who was successful for that at-large seat, why Mayor Hillary Schieve of course.

Schieve and Reese knew of Taylor’s pro-anything-a-developer wants approach from her time on the Reno Planning Commission. We mean, come on, Councilmember Naomi Duerr, who usually says way more than Schieve and Reese would like all but vomited the justification for appointing Taylor with the comment published by The Nevada Independent, September 7, 2022, "I do believe you would hit the ground running. I think your two partners to your right [the other two candidates] also could do the job. I also think they need a little bit more seasoning, frankly, to get up to what you've experienced on the planning commission.”

In this case the other two candidates were none other than Elliot Malin, and Alex Goff two very independent thinkers who would not have followed Schieve and Reese’s “Developer Yellow Brick Road” not the rubber stamp of agreement as Taylor has been instructed to vote.

Because Taylor was mixed in with Malin and Goff, it seems everyone assumed Taylor was a Democrat. Now to learn two years later that she is a Republican makes Picon say, “Game well played Mayor Schieve and Councilmember Reese, we applaud you.” They out gamed the residents of Reno. Schieve and Reese are counting on those stalwart Republicans that will vote party line no matter what, and that is what is happening here.

Appointed Councilmember Kathleen Taylor has her campaign literature at Washoe County Republican Headquarters over by the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa – heck there was (past tense) even a Taylor yard sign in the window, probably a Republican took it home and planted it in their yard.

As Taylor is knocking on doors, when she hits a nonpartisan or registered Democrat, she sure isn’t a Republican. How do we know, one of our journalists knocked doors for Lily Baran. Our publisher, Republican Larry Chesney, hooked us up with a few pals he knows in the Ward who have had Taylor rap their door knocker, and if you’re an “R” she’s happy to advise you so is she.

At last week’s Labor Fest - Taylor was all but glued to the side of Councilmember Reese because he has all those lovely union endorsements. They were twinsies visiting all the booths together, with Reese giving the appearance of Taylor’s support of anything ‘union’ – which we wonder how her Republican base would react. Clark was who advised us of the Reese/Taylor duo in Idlewild Park. Clark is a big supporter of unions, and pointed out in 2022, “we grew up with food on the table because my mother worked for a union.”

Picon has a large readership who are Republicans and urge them to share this article and let your friends and family know there’s nothing Republican about Kathleen Taylor, don’t be duped.
