City of Reno, Better Audio Please …

The November 19, 2024, City of Reno Neighborhood Advisory Board Meeting regarding Lyon Living's conditional use permit application proved to be an exercise in frustration for community members. The presentation by Wood Rodgers' representative Andy Durling was hampered by significant audio issues, making it nearly impossible for YouTube attendees to follow the crucial details of the proposed development. We could all see Durling’s presentation but not necessarily hear him or the questions being asked by the attendees.

273 Units on the corner of Plumas Street and McCarran Blvd. Once built residents get ready to spend a lot of time at that intersection.

The meeting's effectiveness was further compromised by Councilmember Duerr's management style, which appeared to overshadow the intended role of NAB members. Given the controversial nature of this development and the significant community interest, the lack of adequate sound equipment and proper accommodation for attending residents was particularly disappointing.

Picon’s always amazed the actual name of the developer is never given. During the presentation we didn’t hear Mr. Durling say the name of his client once.

The presence of Drew Ribar, (Auditing Reno 911) who took the initiative to film the proceedings, may prove to be a valuable service to the community. His potential YouTube posting could provide residents with the clarity that was lacking during the live meeting. It's worth noting that such basic documentation of public meetings should be a standard service provided by the City, not left to private citizens.

This meeting seems to illustrate a broader pattern of development approvals in Reno, where despite significant community opposition, projects appear to face minimal obstacles from what many consider a developer-friendly City Council.

This project at 6000 Plumas Street is now set for the December 5, 2024, City of Reno Planning Commission meeting. We urge residents to attend and hope it will be a better run meeting with audio.

It is interesting to see where the money contributed to then City Councilmember Delgado could have gone from Lyon Management Group if not already spent.

Contributions from Delgado’s campaign in 2022 to Marliuz Garcia and Hillary Schieve.
