County Business Goes “On Hold” Due to Alexis Hill’s Reelection Campaign
For Commissioner Alexis Hill it is all about getting reelected. Hill seems to be willing spin the facts, she’ll cut commissioners out, because she is hell-bent to retain her commission seat.
Last year, Hill and Washoe County spun the fact that they had cut homelessness by 50%. Oops that was wrong, but that admission came out from Washoe County only after Commissioner Hill had been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and gotten a whole lot of national attention. Later the county propaganda team spun the mistake as being due to bad data from the Point in Time count. The same Point in Time count County Manager Eric Brown now directs is only need to be done every two years. Wait, bad data means only doing the count every two years?
Come on Chair Hill do something. Hill cancelled the CHAB meeting due to the Davis Fire, on September 9, 2024, however, Chair Hill has had lots of time to reschedule the Community Homeless Advisory Board meeting but she’s omitted to do so, wanting to avoid any bad press due to her reelection campaign. Who wants a bunch of pesky homeless complaining about Chair Hill’s “perfectly wonderful solving the homeless crisis in Washoe County” Nevada Cares Campus.
District 2 Commissioner Mike Clark is still scratching his head over why he wasn’t included in the Davis Fire press conference. Washoe County didn’t even tell him they were holding a press conference, led by Commissioner Alexis Hill. Nor did Washoe County invite Clark to the Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate Governor Tim Walz fire water walk, you know, milling about handing water out to the firefighters, who were gathered for the exact reason of a media op. But Washoe County couldn’t invite Clark because Commissioner Alexis Hill needed her campaign photo op, so she could send a mailer letting residents know “Alexis Hill Is working to keep us safe.” A photo with Clark in it would have ruined Hill’s vibe, of single handily keeping us all safe in her leadership role.
Clark was sort of left on his own learning more from social media and friends who live in the area than Washoe County Government. We all know County Manager Eric Brown despises Clark but come on the guy was elected so your only option is to attempt to get along with him. Commission Chair Alexis Hill is no fan of Clark, and on ABC referred to him as an arsonist. Hill’s comment, “some of these local elections have let the arsonist in the building.”
Clark went onto social media and thanked the very Democratic Reno Councilmember Naomi Duerr and the Republican Women of Reno, and Nicol Herris who were all sharing information online with one another. County Manager Brown might want to call them next time to help manage Clark, they seemed to get along swimmingly.
The individual who chairs the Washoe County Commission and represents the residents of District 1, who just papered voters in District 1 (and she sent it to everyone, not just Democrats and Nonpartisans, Republicans received Hill’s mailer too) with her campaign flyer letting you know that she is “working to keep us safe,” then why won’t Hill get a study done for an updated evacuation plan for Incline Village and Crystal Bay, in the event of a wildfire, or other emergency.
Commissioner Alexis Hill is the champion of using $500,000 of ARPA funds to help the Nevada Museum of Art out to bring the art installation Seven Magic Mountains to northern Nevada. The museum still needs to find about another $700,000.
Wouldn’t it have been prudent and responsible to have used those funds for an evacuation plan update. But, Hill is buddies with some of the very well-heeled Nevada Museum of Art trustees and had committed the funds to get their support for her reelection. Why do you think she fought hard for the funds and snuck it on the agenda in the first place, with Clark bringing it back for a 2nd look after many residents of Washoe County were up-in-arms over the $500,000 spend.
Why did it pass? Because Clark can bring back all he wants, but he doesn’t have the votes, Hill does with the support of Commissioner Clara Andriola who seems to be handled by Hill. Andriola sure doesn’t support the two Republican commissioners, Jeanne Herman and Mike Clark.
We urge residents to contact Commissioner Alexis Hill and ask why she is against a evacuation plan update if she is “working to keep us safe.” Come on we all know Washoe County can afford the study, so we ponder why they aren’t doing it. Could it be the news is bad and it might harm Hill’s reelection chances?
