Lawson's Toll Road to Nowhereville.
City of Sparks Councilmember Donald Abbott supporting Mayor Ed Lawson’s all but dead Assembly Bill 61 on KTVN 2 News before April 11th.
In a stunning display of political self-sabotage, Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson expressed shock—SHOCK!—that his $500 million toll road bill died in the Nevada Legislature after he publicly insulted most of its members as self-serving public employees and union cronies.
Someone needs to let Mayor Ed Lawson know that this social media rant was what killed his bill.
Assembly Bill 61, which would have created a 13-mile connector between La Posada Drive and USA Parkway, crashed and burned faster than you can say "political suicide." Apparently, Mayor Lawson believed the best strategy for passing legislation was to first announce that lawmakers are corrupt pocket-padders who only help themselves and their friends.
After his Vegas trip revelation that—gasp!—public servants work in public service, Lawson's brilliant recovery plan involved forcing Councilmember Donald Abbott to conduct a toll road tutorial, presumably to distract from the mayor's diplomatic dumpster fire.
We get it there have been 117 toll roads in Nevada, but it looks like there won’t be a 118th this year.
The delicious irony, of course, is that Lawson seems to have forgotten that his own City of Sparks staff are—wait for it—public employees. Perhaps someone should explain to the mayor that insulting the profession of everyone who works for you generally falls under "How Not to Leadership 101."
Who wants a quote from Mayor Ed Lawson. He has said it all when wishing the bad luck of being stuck in traffic to residents due to his Toll Road assembly bill dying.
