He’s Back! The Return Nobody Asked For …
Mayor Ed Lawson on YouTube talking about roads and abandoned cars.
Microwave another bag of popcorn, folks. Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson is back on Facebook, and he's brought his signature mix of confusion, complaints, and unintentional comedy, at the expense of the residents of Sparks.
Ed's Latest Rant-a-palooza:
A bizarre lumber pricing conspiracy theory (with the classic "I hope I'm wrong" disclaimer - spoiler alert: he usually is)
The mysterious land of "South Nevada" (Las Vegas got a rebrand nobody knew about)
A stunning revelation that some legislators don't know where Storey County is (maybe because his highly-paid lobbyists forgot to brief them on why they were meeting Ed)
Mayor Ed Lawson’s Facebook rant about the 83rd Nevada Legislature.
Ed Geography: Claims I-80 connects to Reno but not Sparks. Someone might want to send the Mayor a map - or just drive him down I-80 through his own city.
Remember Scott Bensing and Chris Barrett, the dynamic duo who fumbled the 2024 Lands Bill? They might be back. Well, maybe. With Sparks facing an $18 million deficit, will Ed have the nerve to rehire the team that fumbled last years Lands Bill? At $90K each. Really?
Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, Ed drops this diplomatic gem about legislators: "Good luck changing any law that pads their pockets or their friends."
Brilliant strategy there, Mr. Mayor. Nothing says "effective leadership" like publicly insulting the people you need to work with.
Bless Storey County Commissioner Clay Mitchell’s heart for trying to save Lawson. We’d pay to watch Lawson address anyone at the legislature after his post calling them out.
But wait! Ed claims he "wakes each day to fight for Sparks residents." Apparently, that fight includes:
Alienating state legislators
Misunderstanding basic geography
Planning to waste money on failed lobbyists
Pro tip, Ed: Maybe stick to running the city and leave the Facebook rants to those better suited. Someone more clever with a basic grasp of what effective government looks like.
Stay tuned for Ed's next episode of "How to Sabotage Your City's Interests While Posting About It.”
Any candidate planning on challenging Ed in 2026 for mayor should be thanking Picon for our dedication to documenting Ed’s rants.
From this rant we now know the reason Lawson went to South Nevada to talk to a few folks from the legislature. To get support for Lawson’s Toll Road.
We want to remind Lawson who else was a cheerleader for the Toll Road, former Sparks Councilmember Kristopher Dahir - some ponder if his support for the road was one of many reasons he lost his council seat.
