Election Preparation Limbo
Is County Manager Eric Brown and his handpicked, by secret employee committee, Registrar of Voters awaiting the results of the Nevada Secretary of State and Attorney General multistate lawsuit against Trump Administration executive overreach in elections, before they take any action on Trumps executive orders?
March 26, 2025 email from County Manager Eric Brown to Commissioners.
Washoe County officials continue to delay clarifying their election procedures despite looming presidential mandates. The county administration appears to be strategically stalling, refusing to commit to how the Registrar of Voters will implement required changes while pointing to pending litigation as justification for their inaction.
Now we don’t have a horse in the race when it comes the executive order or the SOS/AG lawsuit but we worry the Washoe County Registrar of Voters office has been plagued by mistakes and missteps, and Registrar of Voters turnover during the last five years. So shouldn’t preparedness be top of mind?
Press release regarding multistate lawsuit.
The lawsuit filed by Nevada's Attorney General and Secretary of State—widely expected to fail—has become a convenient shield for county leadership. Critics argue this waiting game serves as political cover rather than responsible governance, especially as election preparation deadlines draw closer. Meanwhile, voters and election workers alike remain in limbo, uncertain about how the upcoming electoral process will ultimately be managed in one of Nevada's most populous counties.
