Developer's Best Friend: Devon Reese's Latest Housing Hustle

RGJ headlien today

While reading today's Reno Gazette Journal, we couldn't help but cheer their coverage of the latest development debacle in the City of Reno - you know, the one Councilmember Devon Reese is championing from his million-dollar perch in Somersett.

Speaking of Somersett... Isn't it fascinating how Reese pushes for dense development everywhere except in his own upscale neighborhood?

Follow the Money: A quick peek at Reese's Secretary of State Contribution and Expense reports tells you everything you need to know. Developer dollars flow like wine into his campaign coffers, and surprise, surprise - he never met a development project he didn't love.

At this rate, if Reese could figure out how to let developers stack housing units in your driveway, he'd probably sponsor the ordinance tomorrow. (Just not in Somersett, of course.)

As Reese told the RGJ, “the city needs housing, even if it means cluster developments like this.”

The Real Story:

  • Million-dollar home in Somerset? ✓

  • Campaign funded by developers? ✓

  • Pushing development in everyone else's neighborhoods? ✓

  • Protecting his own backyard? ✓

Let's be real: When your campaign account looks like a developer's Christmas list, "objective" decision-making about development goes right out those luxury Somerset windows.

Want to know which way Reese will vote on development? Just follow the donation trail.

But, hey RGJ, how about some additional information other than just telling us the developer is AMH Properties. What if we’re just a Regular Joe and want to look this developer up? Find out more about them? How about how to contact them?

Visit the Nevada Secretary of State to find the business entity AMH Properties you find a revoked license, with the name MARION TAVENNER HOSE.

Secretary of State Business License search.

When we Google the name we get an obituary and some company information.

Obituary from 2016.

So, hey, RGJ, how about telling us more about AMH Properties, like who’s the owner. How about other developments they have, properties, etc. More would be appreciated.

Out of date information about AMH Properties, which was obviously named after the owners.

Let the residents of Reno know who they need to fight if you’re going to take the time to write about a development. We all know how to contact Councilmember Devon Reese and residents pleas fall on his deaf ears when it comes to development.

But fear not Renoites, the Nevada Commission on Ethics, has to rule on a few more ethic violation complaints regarding Councilmember Reese. Soon he might know how residents of Reno feel with his lack of empathy.
