Washoe County's Desperate Dance of Deflection
Agenda Item - Washoe County Board of County Commissioners Meeting - February 25, 2025.
Oh, how delightful. Washoe County Government has once again proven that they can't resist jumping into the social media fray, apparently believing their defensive comments are some kind of brilliant strategic move. Spoiler alert: they're not.
Let's break this down for the cheap seats: These public servants seem more interested in playing digital damage control than actually serving the residents who pay their salaries. It's like watching a desperate PR team try to plug holes in a sinking ship - except the ship is local government, and the holes are their own spectacular mismanagement.
On March 23, 2025, we posted about a CalMatters.org article highlighting the county's need for an updated evacuation plan. Cue the county's reflexive Facebook finger-wagging.
Here's the delicious irony: A private citizen - not the county, not Commissioner Alexis Hill's magical problem-solving skills - dropped a cool $185,000 to fund an evacuation study. That's right. A private donor is doing the heavy lifting while county officials pat themselves on the back.
The commissioners approved a donation from a private citizen - a fact the county seems desperate to blur into obscurity. If left to District 1's own devices? We'd be more likely to see tumbleweeds draft an evacuation plan before anything substantive happened.
But please, Washoe County, continue your social media performance art. It's endlessly entertaining.
