Say What, Kristopher Dahir?
Picon can’t believe some of these election flyers and the candidates stretching of the truth. Candidates are spending a fortune on campaign flyers, and we’ve been told by most voters, they take the pile of flyers out of their mailbox and plunk them in the trash.
Sparks Councilmember Kristopher Dahir is no exception. How about this flyer focusing on “safety” which has been a big flyer focus in 2024. However, while Dahir is focused on the “Status of Public Safety in Sparks” and mentions four new fire trucks that have been “ordered” – a new fire station being built, and how the city is hiring five new firefighters. Great news for Sparks, but then why is the Sparks Fire Department, Sparks Firefighters IAFF Local 1265 – basically where is any firefighter endorsement for Dahir? Focus on fire but no endorsements?
Dahir is also focused on the Sparks Police Department, highlighting Sparks has 121 offices and are continuing to hire, the council voted on new laws to keep victims safe in Sparks, they are keeping parks clean and usable for citizens. Glaringly Dahir is only endorsed by Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam, who has little or nothing to do with Sparks. Where is the Sparks Police Department endorsement, they endorsed him in 2016? Focus on police but no endorsements?
Sparks Police and Fire are not endorsing Dahir, but safety is one of the top topics that are important to residents of Sparks, (there was a poll) so he has to have the “appearance” of support. So much for transparency, so a flyer was crafted making it appear Dahir is supported by Sparks Police and Fire, without an actual endorsement.
But hold the phone Batman, we learned while writing this article, that while Kristopher Dahir continues to use the same political campaign company to run his campaign, his buddy Councilmember Paul Anderson has switched to a new individual for campaign management. We pondered why?
Back in 2020 when Dahir and Anderson both used the same political advisor, Councilmember Paul Anderson’s political mailer was sent that appeared to have his opponents darkened image. Paul Anderson’s opponent was Quentin Smith and when this “uproar” (as the RGJ wrote) took place Anderson reached out to apologize, and Smith said, “we don’t want to turn this into a race issue. I accept his apology and forgive him.”
Why bring this up, because truly Sparks is lacking in transparency with Councilmember’s Kristopher Dahir and Paul Anderson representing the citizens. Just walk back to their unwavering support of the former Sparks City Manager when both Dahir and Anderson tried to play it off that “everybody has a bad year” but then had to change their tunes in September 2023, but neither made a statement or even tried to explain their bad decisions.
Oh, and Councilmember Dahir we double dog dare you - go hang out at a Sparks park in Ward 1 and then tell us how you’ve been keeping parks clean and usable for citizens. When you make a blanket statement, it should be for all of the Sparks parks and not just the ones in the more upscale Ward 5.
