Kristopher Dahir’s Great Paper Shuffle

Saturday, September 28, 2024 - Sparks Fire Pancake Breakfast - Social Media Post.

Sparks City Councilmember Kristopher Dahir posted commenting on how much reading he needs to do because of the many boards he serves on due to being a council member, perhaps with a touch of self-validation. Serving as the chair of the Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) Board, Dahir paints a picture of diligence and commitment, or so he wants it to seem.

When we muddled through, Dahir had written “people (we’re assuming residents of Sparks) ask what we do” as city council. Dahir mentioned the time he takes to read and prepare for the multiple boards he serves on.

Dahir is the chair of the NNPH (Northern Nevada Public Health) Board that meets once per month. When we penned the article back on September 5, 2024, we decided to pull and publish the NNPH minutes once made available.

When reading through the minutes we chuckled realizing the reading Councilmember Dahir had to do for this particular meeting must have taken all of an hour, heck we’ll be kind and say two hours.

Dahir seems to be trying to validate the work he does for residents to get reelected. The only stumble on his path was Dahir’s allure of broader horizons. Remember Dahir didn’t want to be a councilmember in Sparks any longer and in 2021 started a run for Nevada Secretary of State.

Dahir documented on social media all the time he was spending in Las Vegas and around the state. Wonder how he was fitting in all that reading that’s necessary as a Sparks Councilmember back then?

In June 2022 after spending months focused on winning Secretary of State, while being paid to be a Sparks City Councilmember, he lost the primary, Dahir then rekindled fervor for his council duties. Now he is trying to show Sparks residents how hard he works, and reads.

Venturing into the realm of council minutes, we find ourselves stifling giggles at the purported hours Dahir dedicates to absorbing crucial information. From perusing NNPH meeting details to displaying an image of hard work, Dahir's tale unfolds with a tinge of irony. Does the reality match the facade? Absolutely not.

After reading the minutes from the September NNPH meeting it would seem Dahir expended more energy walking to his car and driving to the meeting than what he was called upon to do on the dais.

Hay, Councilmember Dahir, don’t try to snow the voters with the hard work you’re called upon to complete representing them. You know, reading and preparing.

Dahir's solemn quest for hard work and commitment validation is a stark contract to Councilman Donald Abbott.

Abbott emerging and embracing his role as the "goofy young councilmember," Abbott embodies a different spectrum of council dynamics. His penchant for capturing moments, strolling through Sparks, and even showcasing his romantic escapades paints a vivid picture of his city council role. Taxpayers are paying Abbott $90,924.13 (total pay and benefits from Transparent Nevada) to basically be the public relations guy.

But, hey, he’s doing a whole lot more than Sparks City Councilmember Kristopher Dahir with the purported laborious reading sessions of Dahir vs the lighthearted escapades of Abbott.
