Did RTC Pay for Dahir’s Campaign Mailer?
Our inbox was flooded with copies of Sparks City Councilmember Ward 5 Kristopher Dahir's campaign mailer, raising suspicions that the Regional Transportation Commission bankrolled this bad boy. While we're sure they kept their hands clean, the mailer reads more like a RTC infomercial than a council reelection campaign pitch.
But who can blame Dahir for trying to hitch a ride on RTC's brand recognition? After all, he's just an alternate member on their all-star board packed with heavy “in their own minds” hitters like:
Mayor Ed "I'm Not Quitting Facebook Until They Pry My Phone from My Cold, Callused Thumbs" Lawson
Commissioner Chair Alexis "No Agenda Requests from Mike Clark, Thanks" Hill
Reno's Mayor Hillary “Can’t We All Just Get Along, Except Jenny and Meghan” Schieve
Reno Councilmember Devon "No Longer Representing the Entire Town" Reese
Commissioner Mariluz “Public/Private Relationship” Garcia
Our man Kris, just riding the pine as an alternate until Mayor “McPosty” Lawson decides to vacate his throne? Or is forced to resign from the RTC Board because of one Facebook post too many.
The flyer claims Sparks has a traffic problem, which is about as shocking as learning the sky is blue. Bravo to Dahir for commissioning a poll to confirm what any Sparks resident who's ever spent time sitting in a left-turn lane already knows.
The real head-scratcher is why Dahir even bothered with a poll to learn that traffic ranks as Sparks residents' top concern. Dahir hasn't exactly been pounding the pavement and getting a firsthand account from his constituents. His health issues preclude a little door-to-door meet-and-greet. It sounds like the extent of his voter outreach was paying a polling firm to tell him what any Road Rager stuck on Pyramid Highway could have told you for free.
The real kicker? Dahir lists all these upcoming RTC projects that he had about as much involvement with as my grandmother's prize-winning chocolate cake. Unless he can produce transcripts from clandestine RTC project meetings, we're guessing his contributions amounted to a couple courtesy nods and murmured "Uh-huhs" before being shown the door.
Instead of teasing us with a glimpse behind the transportation curtain, Kristopher just punts us over to the RTC website. Thanks for the reverence, bud.
Ward 5's traffic woes will continue for four more years if you return Dahir to the seat. Why? Because Dahir will continue to vote for development after development in Sparks, as he has for the last eight years. Check his voting record, and check his Nevada Secretary of State Contribution and Expense Reports.
