City of Reno Has No Responsive Records
We were told about this altercation that involved Reno City Manager Doug Thornley weeks and
weeks ago, but we took no action because we felt everyone deserves a private life, so we saw
no story and no reason to report.
However, when a resident sent us the attached public record request advising them the City of
Reno has ‘no responsive records’ regarding the request, it became somewhat questionable if
this in fact was not a bit of a cover up on the part of the city.
When this resident sent us the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department highly redacted Domestic
Battery report we realized why City of Reno’s Public Information Office Landon Miller stated,
“The reason why there is no responsive records is because the call was handed to the Washoe
County Sheriff’s Office, as the request itself states.”
Mr. Miller’s comment on behalf of the city is all about semantics. The call was ‘handed’ to the
Sheriff’s Office meaning officials at the City of Reno were aware of the incident but there was
no paper trail because the call was ‘handed’ off. Does that seem transparent to you?
We have reached out to Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance for clarification and await her
response.
